Why doesn't Nemu run in Hardware Mode? ================================================================= 1. Does Nemu64 have sound? A. Yes, it supports cpu sound that is found in many demos and in some commercial games. RSP sound is not yet supported and is being developed by LaC at this time. Look for it in a future release. 2. Will Nemu64 work with my Voodoo1/Voodoo2 card? A. Nemu64's current Video.dll plugin supports only the primary display card. Secondary cards are not supported by this plugin and there are no plans to add them. We may in the future add support via a Glide based plugin, but there are no plans for that at this time. 3. Does Nemu64 run Zelda64/Goldeneye/etc? Why doesn't my <commercial ROM name> ROM run? A. Currently, the compatability is limited to older releases and demos. We will be working to increase compatability as time goes by. Until then, there are several very nice compatability lists on the net, such as the ones at: http://www.glideunderground.com/emu64 http://www.emunews.de 4. Where do i get ROMs? A. ROMs for Demos and Demo Games can be found at www.dextrose.com. ROMs for Commercial games you own can be made with various backup devices available from Bung Enterprises Ltd (www.bung.com.hk). We cannot comment on ROM images that you do not own or do not backup yourself. The legality of downloading these ROM images is questionable and we do not recommend them. 5. Does this Emulator run on my Computer(it has..)? A. We have had users tell us that it runs in software mode on everything from a P75 up to a P500. It apparently works under Win2000 in software mode also. WinNT does not support DX6.0 so it does not run there. In Hardware mode, it really depends on your card. We do not currently check for hardware functionality, so if it runs on your card, it runs, if not, try again with a later release. We currently have plans to try to support most second generation and later cards in hardware mode, but this may change, depending on the complexity of the emulation. 6. Do you need help? A. We currently have all the testers that we need and currently are not looking to add anyone to our coding team. We will make announcements if and when we wish to expand in these areas. 7. Are you Scared of Nintendo? A. We respect Nintendo. They have the power to swat us like flies if they wish. We are not rich, we are simple hobby programmers. If they as much as bring a small case against us, we would not have the resources to fight. Our main hope is that Nintendo will realize that we pose no threat to them and that our emulator is not intended to intrude upon their rights in any way. We have gone out of our way to avoid using Nintendo trademarks or service marks and will continue to try to avoid any confrontation with the entertainment company. 8. When is the next version going to come out? A. We have no set schedule for releases. We release when we feel that the emulator has improved enough to merit it. We don't like releasing when there are large amounts of bugs either. Before a release we spend a good amount of time trying to make things nice and relatively stable. So, my best guess for a next release would be...when we feel that we have something worthwhile that's new to show you. And after all, you wouldn't want to download every day just to see one new triangle in some obscure japanese ROM, now would ya? :) Check the webpage and emulation news pages for updates. 9. Will it support this <item/mode here> in the future? A. We will be adding capabilities as time passes. New card features (and old card features) will be added, along with higher resolutions (already being worked on), extra controllers, etc. We are continually evolving and will be able to adapt and grow with the emulation community, but these things take time. 10.What are the controller buttons? A. Main Buttons -------------- A = A Left = Q B = S Right = W Z = X Enter/Return = Start Analog Stick(always at maximum) C Buttons ------------------------------- --------- Up = Straight up I = up C Down = Straigt Down J = left C Left = To the Left K = down C Right = To the Right L = right C (use shift with direction keys for 50% speed) 11.Why can't I play off my CD? A. We didn't realize that so many people had their ROMs on CD when we went to release, so we didn't think of this situation occuring. We will add this capability to a future release. Currently however, Nemu attempts to write to the ROM directory to record eeprom and mem pack information. Copy the ROM you wish to run to your hard drive and direct Nemu to that directory. If you attempt to run a ROM image from CD, Nemu will fail. We apologize for the inconvenience. 12.It runs very slow on my system, how can I make Nemu run faster? Why doesn't Nemu run in Hardware Mode? A. Overclock your CPU or be patient. :) Seriously, we are working on speed improvements all the time. If your video card can handle it, hardware mode will give a good speed improvement over software mode. Hardware mode is currently compatibile with most second and third generation video cards we have tested (with minor incompatabilities) It looks like we are not going to be able to reasonably support older cards that only support square textures, or the smaller memory PCI cards in hardware mode. They simply do not have the power to emulate a graphics powerhouse like the N64. We will try to cover as many cards as possible, but I suggest upgrading your card to a second or third generation card, such as the ATI Rage Fury, TNT, TNT2, Matrox G400, or even the aging i740. (Although the 2d/3d combination cards from 3dfx can run Nemu64, they have to simulate support for large textures and do not have AGP texturing support which makes them perform less well than comparable cards from other vendors)
