Depending on when you purchased your Palm organizer, version 3.5 of the Palm OS software may already be included on the ROM. If the Palm organizer you have does not have version 3.5 installed on it, check our web site (see above) for information regarding availability of a downloadable version to upgrade your Palm organizer.
The primary enhancement associated with this release is the support of a color screen. Some key additional features include:

· Agenda View. Palm organizers running version 3.5 of the Palm OS have a feature called Agenda View, which allows them to view both their Date Book and To Do List in the same screen. This version of the Agenda View feature does not currently support the Franklin Covey Task List. Franklin Covey is working to provide support for the Task List in Agenda View in the future, so check our web site for availability.
· Masked Records. You can hide or mask all records that you mark as private. Masked records appear as gray placeholders in the same position they would appear if they were not masked, and are marked with a lock icon. Hidden records disappear completely from the screen. If you define a password for your organizer, you must enter it to display private records.
· Command Bar. When you draw the Command Stroke, the Command toolbar appears just above the Graffitiâ character writing area to indicate that you are in Command mode. The command toolbar displays context sensitive menu commands for the current screen. New icons associated with specific commands are also provided for ease of use.
· Menu Bar. The Menu Bar can now be accessed in two different ways. Either Tap the Menu icon, or Tap on the inverted title area at the top of the screen to display the Menu Bar.
IR HotSync technology and proximity to notebook computers. Some users have experienced intermittent errors when support for IR HotSync technology is activated. The following is an excerpt from the Troubleshooting section of your Palm User’s Guide.
Move your organizer away from the computer’s infrared port.
My organizer displays the message “Waiting for sender” when it’s near my computer’s infrared port.
Your computer’s infrared port may be set to search automatically for the presence of other infrared devices. Do the following to turn off this option:
· In the Windows taskbar, click Start.
· Choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
· Double-click Infrared.
· Click the Options tab.
· Uncheck the option “Search for and provide status for devices in range.”
· Click OK.
· If you are using Windowsâ 98, move your organizer away from the computer’s infrared port.
Please note the user’s guides for the Palm handheld products have been included electronically on the Franklin Planner Software CD, and are an option during installation. Electronic documentation provides the latest information along with easy to use search capabilities. Several options are available for accessing these documents.
If you elect to install Franklin Planner for Outlook software on your computer, you will also have the option to install the documentation to your hard drive. The on-screen installation instructions will guide you through the process.
If you elect not to install the documentation to your hard drive, you may access the files directly from the CD as follows:
· Insert the Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook CD
· Click on the “My Computer” icon from your desktop (or open Windows Explorer) and click on the drive letter that represents your CD-ROM.
· The installation screen will appear. Click on “browse”, then locate the subfolder labeled “Documentation”.
· Open the Documentation folder to display a list of all available documentation. The PDF files are opened using Acrobat Reader, which is also included on the CD.

1. A notification screen has been added to the Prioritized Daily Task list to warn users of possible duplication of data if they make a modification to a single instance of a repeat or redo task.
2. Moving a future-dated repeat task to the Date Book now works properly.
3. Synchronization takes place properly when Palm devices are set to use international date format DD/MM/YY.
4. Palm contacts entered on Palm now obey the “File As” option in Outlook.
5. Selecting “Delete all steps associated with LRG” now functions properly.
6. Using the Time Stamp button while editing a note in the Master Task List now works properly.
1. Support added for Palm OS 3.5 software. This includes support for color, highlighting, Masked Records and the Command Bar.
2. Entering the 5th or 6th task with same value and next rank caused a fatal error, now fixed.
3. Moving MTL item to Tasklist no longer gets Fatal Alert.
4. After first-time synchronization or upgrading, some users were getting two sets of icons on the Palm. Now fixed.
5. Some users experienced unusually slow synchronization on first time HotSync. Now fixed.
6. Fatal Error no longer occurs when Getting Incomplete tasks.
7. Some users experienced duplicate Franklin Covey Palm application entries in the version list on the Palm. Now fixed.
8. Some users experienced Fatal Error when moving Tasks to Datebook and modifying the Date and Time for the task. Now fixed.
9. Title Bar now functions correctly for Notes in PDTL and MTL on Palm 3.5 OS.
Check our web site for ReadMe files that include information about repaired issues and enhancements associated with prior releases of Franklin Planner for Outlook.
This section lists some of the issues known to exist in this version of the software. Franklin Covey continues to work these issues and will include fixes in a future release of the software.
1. Changes made to a single instance of a Recurring Event or a Recurring Task can cause a duplication of data.
2. The new Agenda View feature of the Palm Date Book does not support the current version of the Franklin Covey Task List. Franklin Covey is working toward a version that will integrate with this feature. Visit our web site for more information on a future release.
3. Categories with names of more than 15 characters created in Franklin Planner software will not synchronize with the Palm organizer. Names must be shorter than 15 characters.
4. The new Franklin Covey icons do not display properly on the PalmPilotTM Personal and Professional, and the Pilot 1000 and 5000 organizers.
5. Notes attached to a task within the Franklin Covey Task List do not get copied if the task is moved to the Date Book.
6. Duplicate records can be created when using recurring tasks and appointments.
If you have been using your Palm organizer to HotSync with any other application except Microsoft Outlook, you may experience duplication of data after installing Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook unless you take steps to prevent it.
Following are several situations where data duplication could occur. We recommend you choose the option that best describes your situation, and follow the instructions to prevent data duplication as you synchronize your Palm organizer with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook on my desktop computer, and I intend to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook on the same computer.”
This is the simplest situation of all, and should not result in any data duplication.
1. Conduct HotSync before you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook. This backs up all Palm data on Microsoft Outlook.
2. Install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
3. Set HotSync Manager options to “Desktop overwrites Handheld” for all applications.
4. Conduct a HotSync operation.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook, but I have some ASCEND 97 or Franklin Planner Software for Windows data that I want to use with my Palm organizer.”
When you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, the installation program includes an option to convert data from Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 into a format useable by Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
Note: The following instructions apply only if you have been synchronizing your Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook and want to import Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 data. If you have been synchronizing your Palm with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97, use the instructions in “I have been synchronizing my Palm device with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 …” below.
1. During installation of Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, choose the option to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data to a format useable by Microsoft Outlook. Follow the instructions.
2. After installing Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, set HotSync Manager options to “Desktop overwrites Handheld” for all conduits.
3. Conduct a HotSync operation.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook, I have some ASCEND 97 or Franklin Planner Software for Windows data that I want to use with my Palm organizer, but I don’t want to convert the data yet.”
If you wish to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, but wish to wait until a future time to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data, you can do this by choosing No at the point in the installation process where you are prompted to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data.
You can run the data conversion utility later, separate from the Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook installation process. See “Running the Conversion Utility as a Standalone Application” in your User’s Guide for instructions.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with another desktop organizer program [besides Microsoft Outlook, Franklin Planner Software, or ASCEND], such as Palm Desktop. I want to begin using Microsoft Outlook and Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, and synchronizing my Palm organizer with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.”
If you have been synchronizing your Palm with any other desktop organizer program except Microsoft Outlook, Franklin Planner Software, or ASCEND, and you want to synchronize it with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, follow these directions:
1. Conduct a HotSync operation between your desktop organizer program and your Palm device. This ensures that the same information is resident on both the desktop software and your Palm device, and gives you a backup in case you have problems with your Palm device.
3. Conduct a HotSync operation to install Franklin Covey applications on your Palm device, then conduct another HotSync operation to synchronize your information. Use the default HotSync options (synchronize the files).
4. The information on your Palm is transferred to Microsoft Outlook.
q “I just purchased a Palm organizer, I am not currently using another desktop software program, and I want to use my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook and Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.”
If you are not currently synchronizing your Palm device with any desktop software program (for example, you just bought the Palm device and the first synchronization you intend to do is with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook), simply synchronize your Palm device with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook after installation. Any information you have entered on your Palm or on Microsoft Outlook will be synchronized.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm device with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97, and I want to convert my Franklin Planner Software for Windows/ASCEND 97 data to Microsoft Outlook format and then synchronize the data with my Palm device.”
This is the most complex situation, and you have two options to prevent data duplication. If this situation applies to you, read these methods carefully before you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
§ First Method
Do not use this option unless you are not using add-on Palm organizer applications, or unless you don't mind reinstalling your other add-on applications.
The first method is to simply install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook. If the installation program detects that you have Franklin Planner Software for Windows installed on your computer, you will be prompted to choose whether to export your Franklin Planner Software for Windows/ASCEND 97 data to a format useable by Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
Then, perform a hard reset on your Palm organizer, then synchronize your Palm twice with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook (the first synchronization installs Franklin Covey applications, while the second synchronizes the data). This eliminates the possibility for duplicate records; however, you will lose all add-on applications that you have on your Palm organizer as a result of the hard reset. Do not use this option unless you are not using add-on Palm organizer applications, or unless you don't mind reinstalling your add-on applications. You can, of course, use the Palm Install tool to reinstall your Palm add-on applications before conducting the first HotSync operation.
§ Second Method
The second method is more complex, but prevents duplication of records while preserving your other Palm organizer add-on applications.
1. Conduct a final HotSync operation to synchronize data between your Palm organizer and Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97. Now, all your information is safely resident in Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97.
2. Remove the Task List, FCLinkDB and other Franklin Covey applications (if any) from your Palm organizer. See your Palm organizer User's Guide for information on how to remove add-on applications.
