Hello everyone, welcome
to the May 2018 edition
of your favourite aviation
modelling magazine!
Eighteen months ago I was given the chance
to build Tamiya’s brand-new 1:48 F-14A
Tomcat. Those of you that also buy our sister
title, Tamiya Model Magazine International,
may well remember my thoughts on the kit and
how impressed I was at the time. Well, having
let the dust settle over it for a while, I decided
that this month it was time to take another look
at this incredible plastic model kit, this month
taking what Tamiya supply in their box and

then improving it further with a number of sets
created by Eduard. In a nutshell, this helps to
create perhaps the ultimate example of this
aircraft in miniature, with even higher levels of
detail around the airframe, cockpit, etc., than
is possible from even Tamiya’s stunning box
of tricks. In addition to the extra detail, a set
of Furball decals was also used to replicate
a wonderfully attractive, black-nosed VF-41
aircraft, to create something that really stands
out in the display case. Do you want to know

In addition to the F-14 we also have quite
a collection of classic aircraft builds to enjoy,
with the Zero, Hurricane, Bugatti P100 and A-1
Skyraider all taking turns to get your collective

juices flowing. Of course these features
would all be fun in their own right
simply based on their individual subject
matter, but when each is a different
approach to a distinct type of kit build
(from the box, detailed, conversion and
resin), that pleasure is increased. You
may not like each one in its entirety,
but we hope that you will be able to
pull ideas and inspiration from these
features to that you feel confident
to perhaps tackle something similar
yourself.
AND FINALLY…
This month we continue with our round
up of the latest 1:144 news and feature
another kit build from the hands of
Roy Kinsella. There is no doubting
the popularity of this scale and if
conversations over the last few months
are anything to go buy, we are definitely
on the right track with our features. This
month we have looked at the delightful
AFV Club Corsair and shown what is
possible from this scale and that kit. It
may be tiny, but the detail and presence
afforded by its completion more than
make up for that fact. We hope that you
like it as much as we do!
