appliqués, use sewing thread to attach the
pieces to the head.
4. For easier and more exact part placement,
head and tail placements are formed
by working in the remaining loops from
Rounds 9 & 10 and Round 24 of the Body.
When attaching the head, work the last
round of stitches in the remaining loops
from the neck.
5. Tail is worked in the remaining loops from
Rounds 8 & 9.
6. If adding optional weighted stuffing, place
4 cup of plastic pellets in the toe of a knee
high stocking. Place this weighted packet
in the bottom portion of the body.
7. Toys with weight inserts & button eyes are
not suitable for children under 3 years of age.

PARROT
Body
Beginning at bottom with A , wind yarn around
finger for beginning ring, leaving a tail to
tighten the ring. Tighten ring after Round 1 is
completed.
Round 1: With larger hook, work 12 sc in
ring—12 sts.
Round 2: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat
from * around—18 sts.
Round 3: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st;
repeat from * around—24 sts.
Round 4: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st;
repeat from * around—30 sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st;

repeat from *across—8 sts.
Round 5: Now working in rounds, work 3 sc
evenly spaced across end of next 3 rows, sc
in remaining loops opposite next 2 sts, work 4

working across Row 4, sc in next 6 sts across,
2 sc in next st, join with slip st in next st—
17 sts.
Round 6: 3 hdc in st, sc in next 4 sts, *2 sc in

Wings (make 2)
With A , ch 7.
Round 1: With size G hook, sc in 2nd ch
from hook and in next 4 chs, 3 sc in next ch,
working in remaining loops on opposite side of
ch, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in last st—15 sts.
Rounds 2–4: Sc in each st around.
Round 5: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 13 sts, 2
sc in next st—17 sts.
Round 6: Sc in each st around.
Feet (make 2)
First Claw
With B , wind yarn around finger for beginning
ring, leaving a tail to tighten the ring. Tighten
ring after Round 1 is completed.
Round 1: With larger hook, 8 sc in ring—8 sts.
Round 2: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts;
repeat from * twice—10 sts.
Rounds 3–4: Sc in each st around.
Round 5: Sc2tog, sc in next 8 sts—9 sts.
Round 6: Sc2tog, sc in next 7 sts—8 sts.
Round 7: Sc in each st around. Fasten off and
set aside, First Claw of foot made.
2nd Claw
Rounds 1–6: Repeat rounds 1–6 of First Claw.
Do NOT fasten off at end of 2nd Claw.
Stuff tips of both claws.
Back Claw
Round 7: Holding the First and 2nd Claws
side-by-side, with open ends facing towards
you, sc each st around each Claw—16 sts.
Round 8: Sc in each st around—16 sts.
Round 9: *Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts; repeat
from * 4 times—12 sts.
Stuff firmly and continue stuffing as rounds
are completed.
First Ruffle
Round 7: Working in front loops only, ch 1, slip
st in same st, skip next st, 5 hdc in next st,
*skip next st, slip st in next st, 5 hdc in next st;
repeat from * 4 times, skip next st, slip st in
next st and in beginning slip st. Fasten off.
Right Side Eye Patch Appliqué (make 1)
With D [C] , ch 3.
Row 1: With smaller hook, working in back

Using yarn ends from feet & tapestry needle,
attach feet, side by side, to middle portion
of the bottom of the parrot’s body, making
certain that the first and 2nd claws are facing
forward. Sew securely taking several stitches
along both feet. Fasten off. Weave in yarn ends
and trim.
2nd Tail Ruffle
Round 9: Repeat Round 4. Fasten off.
Round 10: Join C in first remaining loop
of round just completed, ch 1, sc in same
st as join and in remaining loop of each st
around—18 sts.
Rounds 11–14: Sc in each st around.
Round 15: *Sc in next st, sc2tog; repeat from
* around—12 sts.

Attach wings to upper side portions of body
using yarn ends & tapestry needle. Weave in
ends from tail and wings and trim.
Finishing
Stuff head lightly before applying facial
features. Attach beak to head using yarn tail or
sewing thread.
Referring to photo, sew eye patches on either
side of beak, making certain to orient each
patch as a mirror image to the other. For best
results attach these patches with sewing
thread and needle.
Tail
Round 1: Join A in remaining loop of 4th st
from edge of Round 10 of Body, ch 1, sc in
same st as join and in each remaining loop
across row 10, continue working in remaining
loops of Round 9 of Body—16 sts.
Round 2: Sc in each st around.
Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts;
repeat from * twice—18 sts.
Referring to photo, securely sew eyes to the
eye patches. Finish stuffing head firmly.
Make slight indentation in head stuffing to
accommodate the neck. Thread yarn end from
head onto a tapestry needle, place head onto
neck paying careful attention to orientation of
face. Match the stitches from last round of head
with remaining loops from Round 25 of body
First Tail Ruffle
Round 4: Working in front loops only, *5 dc in
next st, skip next st, slip st in next st; repeat
from * 6 times. Fasten off.
