JAGUAR XKR GT3
The Jaguar XKR GT3 is the racing
version of the road going Jaguar XKR.
Using the same engine but with much
more advanced aerodynamic aids, such
as the large rear wing, prominent front
splitter and with much improved brakes,
the racing version is able to corner at
speeds far higher than its road going
counterpart. Developed for the FIA GT3
series and then raced in other GT series
around the world (including a campaign
in American GT2 as represented in
this kit), the Jaguar proved to be a
competitive machine.

Scale Modelling
series,
Step-by-Step
and its
‘Advanced’
follow-up, were big sellers as
they tapped into modellers’
constant desire to learn new
skills and techniques. Aircraft
types have also been explored,
such as the F 4 Phantom and
de Havilland Mosquito, but
Assistant Editor Stu Fone and I
kicked around various subjects
for a new publication, until it
hit us…auto modelling!
Most modellers who don’t
build automobiles or bikes
will at least admit that, despite
not partaking in these genres
themselves, a well-finished road
or race car (or motorcycle), is
truly something to admire, and
the choice of kits is staggering.

In considering the features for
Scale Modelling: Road and Track,
it was enormous fun researching
what to offer, but also frustrating
in that we had a limited number
of pages and production
time. But I’m sure you’ll agree
we’ve spanned the history of
the automobile rather well (a
motorcycle is also included for
all you two-wheel types), and
there’s a fascinating range of
base kits; the necessary skill
levels differ too, as basic projects
rub along with those aimed at
more experienced builders.
I’m a died-in-the-wool Porsche
962 fan, and we have excellent
coverage of that marque here,
but arguably, there’s something
for everyone. Even if you’re
not a hardcore car/bike
modeller, there’s plenty on the
following pages to entice you,
and perhaps prompt further
exploration of ‘Road and Track’
subjects in the future.
