PLATINUM Server update notes for USB Memory Sticks
==================================================

- Determine which update files you need:
  Find the zip archive for your platform.
  If it contains an EFI folder, in addition to the update files, you need MainfilesEFI.zip
  Otherwise you need MainFilesDOS.zip, and to create a DRDOS bootable USB stick MakeUSBboot.zip
- Most systems set the "USB Mass Storage Emulation type" automatically.
  Depending on the size of the USB memory stick the BIOS sets
  - USB memory sticks < 512MB automatically to "Floppy" Emulation.
  - USB memory sticks > 512MB automatically to "Hard Disk/Zip" Emulation.
- DO NOT change any BIOS or firmware files and settings such as FAN
  configuration etc.

USB Memory Stick notes for DOS
==============================

- You can use the DOS update files on bootable USB memory sticks with FAT16 or
  FAT12 (Floppy format). FAT32 or other filesystems are not supported.
- The maximum supported memory stick size is 2 GB, due to the limitation of FAT16.
- The Update packages are only tested with IBM Dos 7.0 and Caldera DOS 7.03.
- The "command.com" file must be "unhided".

USB Memory Stick notes for the EFI shell
========================================

- You can use the EFI update files on a USB memory stick with
  FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 file system. Recommended file system is FAT16.
- Use FAT16 if you add DOS boot files to the stick.
- If you use FAT16, the maximum supported size is 2 GB, due to the limitation of FAT16.
- The "EFI Shell" can only be the first or the last boot device in the
  BIOS boot order.

Known errors and solutions
==========================
a) Error description:	System reports "Can't load BDOS Kernel like C:\IBMDOS.COM. System Halted"
   Cause: The wrong USB memory device emulation type is set.
   Solution: If you had use the "MakeUsbBoot" utility to make the stick bootable, set
			emulation type in the BIOS to "Auto" else to the correct type of your stick.
			If the settings are correct and you have already the same problem, maybe
			you have to use the "MakeUsbBoot" utility again.

b) Error description:	The EFI shell reports "map: Can not find required map name"
   Cause: You use a CD-ROM for update and the CD-ROM device is connected to a non EFI shell
			supported controller or the device is connected to the onboard controller with
			activated RAID feature.
   Solution: Use the USB memory stick updates or temporarily disable the onboard RAID feature.
			If you do that, DO NOT FORGET to reactivate the RAID feature after update.

Prepare USB Memory Stick with EFI shell update files
====================================================

01. Download "MainFilesEFI.zip" and extract the contents to the root of your USB memory stick.
02. Download and extract required EFI update zip files to the USB media root.

Prepare USB Memory Stick containing DOS update files
====================================================

01. Download "MakeUsbBoot.zip" and extract the contents to your hard disk.
02. Start "dos2usb.bat x". Where 'x' is the assigned drive letter to the USB memory stick.
    ATTENTION: All data on your USB memory stick will be DELETED.
03. Download "MainFilesDOS.zip" and extract the contents to the root of your USB stick.
04. Download and extract required DOs update zip files to the USB media root.

Prepare USB Memory Stick containing DOS and EFI shell update files
==================================================================

01. Download "MakeUsbBoot.zip" and extract the content to your hard disk.
02. Start "dos2usb.bat x". Where 'x' is the assigned drive letter to the USB memory stick.
    ATTENTION: All data on your USB memory stick will be DELETED.
03. Download "MainFilesEFI.zip" and "MainFilesDOS.zip" and extract both files to the
    root of your USB memory stick. Both zip files contains a file named "update.cd" with
    no content. You can overwrite this file or not.
04. Now you can use the USB memory stick with the EFI shell or you can boot DOS from it.

05. Download and extract required EFI update zip files to the USB media root.
    e.g. "3200im6.zip" from the DOS files folder and "100I_200I_300IR_M8.zip" from
    the EFI files folder.
    If you have enough space on your media, you can use all EFI and DOS update files
    (e.g. other system files, controller.zip, selview.zip etc.)
